Killara High School has gone directly to its local community with school information and promotional material in digital format.
We commissioned a professionally produced DVD highlighting the school's advantages and distributed it to all local primary school families. Since it was produced we have distributed a copy of the DVD to every kindergarten family in each of seven local primary schools.
We also uploaded the DVD to the popular video sharing website YouTube and have had nearly 3,000 views. You can now watch the video by going to our School Life page in the Our School section of our website.
The video features a six-minute segment on the school and its offerings and there are separate interview segments with the principal and parents.
In addition, we distribute a detailed print-based prospectus to complement the DVD, and parents of K-4 primary age students receive personalised invitations to attend school tours scheduled throughout the year. These initiatives are part of a coordinated strategy involving strong partnerships with local primary schools.
The focus has been to lift the profile of Killara as a local non selective government secondary destination for young people in one of the most competitive educational markets in the nation.
Despite being surrounded by some of the highest profile non government schools in the state, Killara has increased local enrolment in Year 7 from 58% in the 2003 cohort to nearly 90% in 2010.
