Author and illustrator Jasmine Seymour visits the Lion Library

Collage of images from Jasmine Seymour's visit to the Lion Library

Author Jasmine Seymour visited our library on Tuesday the 30th June. It was an eventful and memorable day.  A group of students who had been on the Mungo trip met Jasmine in the morning, showing her a slideshow of images and sharing their favourite memories and experiences of the trip.  The students’ enthusiasm was infectious and Jasmine asked lots of questions and enjoyed the discussion very much.  They then took her on a tour of the new building and they all shared some food and stories around the new yarning circle.  Jasmine then met with our Year 11 Aboriginal Studies students, and then two of our Year 9 English classes, who are currently studying Indigenous Perspectives, and discussed the importance of language and country to Aboriginal people.  Jasmine talked about her journey as an author and illustrator and where her inspiration comes from for her books.  She stressed that we all belong to this country, whether we were born here or we moved here from somewhere else, and we must all respect and care for the land, nature and each other.
